Welcome to Holywell and District Neighbourhood Watch
Here we are, another year older and another set of objectives to acheive this year. We must thank both North Wales Police and Victim support for all their help and support in 2007. Working in partnership we have been able to help residents who are either victims of crime, or are living in fear of crime.
We have found that the fear of crime is a key area to work in. The fear of crime is much higher than that of actually being a victim of crime.
Offering a range of tools to help people overcome the fear of crime is very important. Wether it is an alarm for their window or a personal alarm for when they are out and about, the ability for them to live free from fear is paramount to us.
We undertake the fitting of all target hardening items ourselves to insure they are fitted to the highest standards. Only using approved products which are purchased from a leading security company based in Flintshire ensures that any thing we fit is of the highest quality.
Background
This is the website of Holywell and District Neighbourhood Watch (HDNW) which operates throughout North Flintshire and is a member of National Neighbourhood Watch Association.
Wherever you live, you are part of a community. It may be large or small, in a town or in the country. It might be a housing estate, a rural village, a block of flats, a suburban road or a seaside resort. Unfortunatley, regardless of its size your community may be a likely target for the criminal.
It's easy to shrug it off and assume that it won't happen to you or that nothing can be done. In fact, a great deal can be done to prevent crime. But the police cannot do it alone. Each of us has a vital role to play by becoming actively involved in crime prevention. Residents of a community possess a very specalised knowledge of their neighbourhood which even the local police community beat manager may find hard to acheive. A police officer might not recognise someone in your garden as a stranger but your neighbour would. It is this kind of awareness and willingness to help that is the basis of neighbourhood and home watch. By letting police know of anything suspiscious you see or hear, you are helping to reduce the opporttunities for crime to occur. The more difficult it can be made for the criminal, the more likely it is that crime can be reduced.
