Welcome to Holywell and District Neighbourhood Watch

2008 What a year! and now for 2009
2009
We are now in entering into a partnership with Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association so that we can all work together for the benefit of the residents. This is progressing very well at present and we are looking forward to a very promising future with them. We will keep you updated on how this is progressing at our regular monthly meetings.
All our members are volunteers and this year we are going to apply to several funding agencies for grants so that we can update our equipment, purchase a trailer and attend even more events.
LAST YEAR - 2008 ended on a real high having gained awards from both North Wales Police - Eastern Division, and the North Wales Criminal Justice Board.
However we would not have received these awards without the support of Pc Cath McHarrie, and Pcso Martin Rowlands. They have been an inspiration to the group with their dedication to the roles they underake in the Holywell area.
We are also now working with Pc Gill Lehrle and Pcso Phil Rushby in new areas of Holywell. These areas present us with a new set of challenges and working in partnership we will do all we can to help.
2009 promises to be another busy year . The Grafitti Project ( North Wales Police and ourselves) will be expanded and include exciting new iniatives in Holywell.
Thank you Cath, Gill, Martin, and Phil for all your support and assitance in 2008 and we are looking forward to carry on working with you all in 2009.
Our input within the comunities of Holywell and surrounding areas is increasing particularly as we are now working with Jane Cope of Comunities First. At present we are helping her with a project in the Holway working with the community.
Thank you Jane, David and members of Community First for your support in 2008 and looking forward to working with you in 2009.
Major event in 2008
Working in partnership with North Wales Police (Pc Cath McHarrie and PCSO Martin Rowlands) we launched the new Holywell Grafitti Board iniative. Present at the launch was David Hanson mp, Sandie Mewies am, The Mayor of Holywell John Griffiths, Holywell Town Centre manager Medwyn Roberts, and the young people who will benefit from this project. We would like to thank them all for attending, along with Communities First and Flintshire Neighbourhood Wardens.
Recently Holywell Town Centre has had problems with Grafitti, and this project has been launched to try to cut down on the damage being done to the buildings, while giving the young people some where to express themselves. Eventually we would like to see their work displayed as pieces of street art in a suitable location.
The next stage of the project is to invite the young people, who are interested, to a meeting to form a proper group and listen too their needs while remembering the needs of the wider communities they live in.
We will keep everyone who is interested informed and if you would like to contact us our details are at the bottom of this page.
While all this was going on our Treasurer, and her team were out raising money to support the needs of the organisation. They raised nearly £150.00 on the day.
Thank you to all the organisations that kindly donated prizes to us. Without your continued support we would not be able to work in the community at the level we do.
This continues our theme of working in partnership with North Wales Police to assist in dealing with the fear of crime and Anti Social Behaviour.
We are actively working to help residents who are either victims of crime, or are living in fear of crime.
Through the years we have found that the fear of crime is a key area to work in. The fear of crime is much higher than that of actually being a victim of crime.
Offering a range of tools to help people overcome the fear of crime is very important. Wether it is an alarm for their window or a personal alarm for when they are out and about, the ability for them to live free from fear is paramount to us.
Background
This is the website of Holywell and District Neighbourhood Watch (HDNW) which operates throughout North Flintshire and is a member of National Neighbourhood Watch Association.
Wherever you live, you are part of a community. It may be large or small, in a town or in the country. It might be a housing estate, a rural village, a block of flats, a suburban road or a seaside resort. Unfortunatley, regardless of its size your community may be a likely target for the criminal.
It's easy to shrug it off and assume that it won't happen to you or that nothing can be done. In fact, a great deal can be done to prevent crime. But the police cannot do it alone.
Each of us has a vital role to play by becoming actively involved in crime prevention. Residents of a community possess a very specalised knowledge of their neighbourhood which even the local police community beat manager may find hard to acheive.
A police officer might not recognise someone in your garden as a stranger but your neighbour would. It is this kind of awareness and willingness to help that is the basis of neighbourhood and home watch. By letting police know of anything suspiscious you see or hear, you are helping to reduce the opporttunities for crime to occur.
The more difficult it can be made for the criminal, the more likely it is that crime can be reduced.
